My name is Carie Kahn, and I am from Martinsville, VA. I studied at the University of Tennessee where, in 1989, I earned an under-graduate degree in psychology.  I moved to Richmond, VA, and in 1993, I received a Masters of Teaching from Virginia Commonwealth University.  Before coming to Northview, I taught in Hanover Co., VA and Watauga Co., NC. I began my teaching career at Northview in December 2008.
In my free time I enjoy reading, running, and needlepoint.  I also enjoy hiking, boating, and fly-fishing with my husband and two sons.

How to stay informed of what is going on in
Mrs. Kahn's Classroom:
The updates will automatically be loaded right here.

 Supplies for Mrs. Kahn's Classroom
All Fantastic Frog Team students will carry a 2-inch binder. It will have loose-leaf paper, their planner, their Blue Card (behavior card), and a pencil pouch which will have pencils, a sharpener, their calculator,  and extra erasers. This binder will go to all classes every day.

I have an interactive notebook in both math and science. This means we glue EVERYTHING into a spiral notebook.  Glue sticks are always welcome!!

Math: TI-30X scientific calculator (this calculator should not cost more than $13), pencils, pencil sharpener, a 5-subject spiral notebook, and a pencil pouch with holes to keep in your  3-ring binder

Science: a 5-subject spiral notebook, pencils, and colored pencils

Northview 6th Grade Grading Polices:

Grading Scale:

The 6th grade operates on a weighted grade scale.  Students’ assignments fall into one of the following categories (Classwork, Homework, Quiz, or Test) and each category is a certain percent of a student’s grade.

Classwork 20%

Homework 20%

Quiz 25%

Test 35%

Late Work:

·         Late work will be accepted for up to 5 days after an assignment is due.

·         Students will receive reduced credit for any assignment that is late.

·         If an assignment is more than five days late, no credit will be received for that assignment. (A grade of zero will be entered into the grade book)

Missing Work (due to absence from school):

Students are allowed to make up all assignments that are missed when they are absent from school.  Students must request missing work from each teacher the day they return to school.  Students will have one day in addition to the number of days that they were absent in order to complete and turn in all missing work without penalty.  (For example:  If a student misses 1 day of school, they will have 2 days to complete and turn in and complete all make up work upon returning to school).
