Kathryn Simmons

Mrs. Kathryn Simmons

7th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies

Welcome Simmons’ Scholars!

My name is Kathryn Simmons and I am entering into my 16th year as a middle school English Language Arts teacher. After graduating from Fred T. Foard High School in Catawba County in 1997, I transferred to UNCG where I received a Bachelors of Science in English and a minor in Human Family Development Studies. I then attended Lenoir Rhyne University (formerly Lenoir Rhyne College), to pursue a Master’s Degree in counseling, but realized it wasn’t the right “fit” for me. I decided to pursue a teaching degree. I moved to Boone, NC and attended ASU, taking on 21 credit hours per semester and attending summer school,  all while working three jobs to attain my teaching license. I began teaching in 2004. This is my third year at Northview and I absolutely love it! I truly believe I have found my forever “home” here. I am so happy to be on the 7th grade Gecko team this year. My husband, Jeff, and I have three children: Ian, age 12 and a set of fraternal twins, Izzy and Aiden, age 10. An interesting fact about me is that I was born in Guyana, South America and raised here in North Carolina! Kayaking is one of my favorite hobbies and I love “glamping” in the mountains with my family. Please feel free to email me at anytime at simmonska@hickoryschools.net.  I am looking forward to a successful school year!
