Brown

Hello Northview family!

I am very excited to serve as the principal of Northview Middle School. As we move into the upcoming school year I look forward to working will all of our students and parents to provide the best education possible.

I have been involved in education since 1994 as a teacher, administrator, college instructor, and coach. This past spring I was the interim principal at Hickory High School. For the previous five and half years I was the Headmaster at Pinnacle Classical Academy in Shelby, NC. In the years prior I served as assistant principal at Chase Middle School in Forest City, and assistant principal at Crest High School in Boiling Springs.

The majority of my career has been in the high school classroom but I have also taught as an adjunct instructor for Cleveland Community College and Gardner-Webb University. For three years I was the Professional Development Coordinator for the American Institute for History Education in New Jersey and am a National Board Certified teacher in social studies/history.

I have two master of arts degrees — one in history from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and the other in school administration from Gardner-Webb University. My undergraduate degree was earned in history from UNC-Charlotte.

Over the years I have been fortunate to be published in the history and education fields. Kings Mountain and Cowpens: Our Victory Was Complete has been in print with History Press since 2009. Classroom Historians: Building Student Understanding Of The Past was published in 2011 by the American Institute for History Education. In addition I have authored chapters on North Carolina in the Colonial Era and in the Civil War and Reconstruction for McGraw-Hill’s The American Journey.

In addition to academics I also have a passion for athletics, having served as the assistant coach for football at Crest High, as well as the assistant and head coach for track and field at Crest High. In college at UNC-Charlotte I threw the shot and discus and held the school record in both when I graduated in 1994.
